- Min Ji, So Jeong and Yeong Che came to class early and held their own version of Simon Says. It was adorable! They asked me some phrases that they didn't know and repeated them really well. And we took some super cute pictures :)
- Do Hyeon was so so sweet today - wWhen Seon Gyu's knee bandage came off, exposing his stitches, I asked Do Hyeon to take him to the school nurse because I knew he knew what me saying "doctor" meant. He took Seon Gyu's hand, put his other hand on his shoulder and slowly walked him down the hall, saying things in Korean (safe to assume it was "Are you okay?" and other reassurances). I just wanted to watch them walk the whole way. But I had to tend to the rest of the Crazies.
- On my way out of school I found 5 of my 6th graders playing on their phones in the hall on the 2nd floor - yep they had actively skipped my class :( When I asked them why, Dae Han didn't say anything but had the guiltiest look on his face, Min Kwan said a noncommittal "sorry" and the others ignored me. I asked them to come on Monday and didn't really respond to their apologies. I know my class is not super exciting for them, but I thought they at least respected me enough to come when they could. It was a big downer at the end of the day :/
- The bus ride was long but not bad today; I rested a lot. When I got to the express terminal in Seoul, I decided to buy a return ticket so I wouldn't have to wait on Sunday (this is the smartest thing to do but I ALWAYS forget)...and I happened to pick a teller who knew a little English! She was super nice and helpful too.
- On my walk to the subway, I realized this is my first time in Seoul by myself! It's a little scary to be wandering around a world capital on my own but, at the same time, I've been here before, know where I'm going and can trust myself not to do anything stupid. It's a good feeling :) If only it weren't raining, I'd feel more inclined to go explore. Oh well - I'm grateful for the rain, after hearing about all the fires in Colorado :/
I'm not unemployed anymore - I actually have a very fabulous job as a preschool teacher with the University of Michigan child care centers. But I'm still posting, albeit a little more irregularly, and I don't want to ignore the personal progress I've made since starting this blog by renaming it.
Blog inspiration: I read 48 States in 48 Days by Paul Jury in the summer of 2011. It was fabulous...although he planned way less for his roadtrip than I would have. And at the same time, my lovely Anna was constantly reminding me that our lives were awesome, despite the fact that we didn't have job prospects, new cars, boyfriends/husbands, houses, etc., like so many people we knew. So, in an effort to appreciate my life and the crazy uncertainty that it is, I started writing this blog about the little adventures I have. (And by "writing a blog," I mean "making a list" because I make lists, not narratives.) Even if there isn't a BIG adventure that happens every day, I try to find at least one thing to list :)
