I'm not unemployed anymore - I actually have a very fabulous job as a preschool teacher with the University of Michigan child care centers. But I'm still posting, albeit a little more irregularly, and I don't want to ignore the personal progress I've made since starting this blog by renaming it.

Blog inspiration: I read 48 States in 48 Days by Paul Jury in the summer of 2011. It was fabulous...although he planned way less for his roadtrip than I would have. And at the same time, my lovely Anna was constantly reminding me that our lives were awesome, despite the fact that we didn't have job prospects, new cars, boyfriends/husbands, houses, etc., like so many people we knew. So, in an effort to appreciate my life and the crazy uncertainty that it is, I started writing this blog about the little adventures I have. (And by "writing a blog," I mean "making a list" because I make lists, not narratives.) Even if there isn't a BIG adventure that happens every day, I try to find at least one thing to list :)

Soul Kitchen

  • Happy May!
  • I’m trying this new technique to help me wake up: as soon as my alarm goes off (or after several snooze-hits), reach over, turn on my computer, open iTunes, play Princess Diaries soundtrack (starting with Wake Up” by Hanson). It’s actually helping! And the PD soundtrack is so peppy, it automatically makes me happy :) Thanks for that one, Ashley!
  • Also, today Carlee called me right away and we “hung out” – chatting, I edited her paper, she packed. It was great. And I helped her find mistakes like “One description describes...” hehe :)
  • Adventures in the kitchen continued tonight – this time experiments, trying to make a suitable veggie dip. Didn’t find the right one but was introduced to some great websites: http://www.supercook.com/ (thanks Ellyn!) and http://myfridgefood.com/ (thanks Jenny!). Very excited for future kitchen endeavors J (If I’m not careful, this might become a cooking/baking blog...)
  • There are bananas all over my kitchen right now. I’m trying out the theory that storing bananas not near other bananas will make them last longer...so far it’s not really working and I look like a crazy person...
  • A few people posted Avery's Bucket List on Facebook today, a blog written by the parents of a baby diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy at the beginning of April.  The blog is really cool and is as much about SMA awareness and advocacy as it is of her adventures over the last month, and I definitely recommend reading it. However, I was really sad to learn that, only a few hours after I'd read through the blog entries, Avery died suddenly. Prayers of comfort for her family and lots of hope that diseases like hers will be more preventable and/or cured some day.

  1. I love hanging out via skype. I wish Mama computer had a webcam so could do that more often. I guess its not too much extra effort to get baby computer out, I just always forget.
